Bilge Demirköz

Bilge Demirköz is a Turkish professor of high-energy physics with an h-index of 115 at Middle East Technical University (METU). She is a UNESCO award recipient and received her education in the United States before returning to Turkey to coordinate the work of the Radiation Testing Laboratory, a facility established by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in collaboration with Turkey. Bilge Demirköz is the lead researcher of the astroparticle physics group and is known for her studies on cosmic radiation and particles traveling close to the speed of light. Her research interests also include studying Earth’s radiation environment and the impact of radiation on electronic devices. In 2021, she led a team that developed a radiation detector, which became the first scientific instrument sent into space from Turkey.
