Nuclear is key to Kazakhstan's Technological Progress – Aldiyar Toktarov
Aldiyar Toktarov, Chairman of the Atomic Industry Development Association, expressed his support for the government’s initiative to build the country’s first nuclear power plant (NPP).
In his statement, Toktarov emphasized that a nation’s progress is often shaped by pivotal decisions that significantly influence its future. In this case, the construction of an NPP could become a turning point, determining whether Kazakhstan advances toward technological and industrial progress or remains reliant on raw material extraction and export.
"Radiophobia, at its core, is a product of ignorance and misinformation. We tend to fear what we do not understand. In reality, radiation is a natural part of our environment, emanating from space, the Earth, and even food. This fear is further amplified by myths perpetuated through the media and the film industry. Disaster movies and portrayals of radiation-induced mutants, like Godzilla, have shaped the collective perception of radiation as a force capable of annihilating all life."
“The nuclear industry is not just about economics. It is a part of global technological progress that drives the development of the most advanced countries in the world. I am confident that the construction of a nuclear power plant will give Kazakhstan the opportunity to join the ranks of developed nations and bring significant benefits to our people and businesses,” added the Chairman of the Association.
