Chirayu Batra

Chirayu Batra is an internationally recognized expert in Advanced Reactors and Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), with over a decade of experience in advanced nuclear technology. He is a Strategy and Engineering Consultant and an Advanced Nuclear Engineering Specialist.

Previously, as Chief Technology Officer at TerraPraxis and LucidCatalyst, he worked on large-scale nuclear energy deployment strategies. Prior to this, he served as a project officer for advanced reactor technologies at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Chirayu is experienced in planning, budgeting, and implementing a diverse range of international projects, with strong expertise in engineering, research, technical, and project management.

He holds degrees in Nuclear Engineering and Nuclear Reactor Physics, complemented by research experience in neutronics and thermal hydraulics.

As the first scientific secretary for the IAEA’s platform on SMRs, Chirayu coordinated the development of the IAEA’s medium-term strategy for the near-term deployment of SMRs and led the creation of the international SMR Coordination and Resource Portal for Information Exchange, Outreach, and Networking (SCORPION). He also spearheaded the IAEA’s work on codes and standards, design engineering, and component manufacturing for SMRs, and regularly contributed technical insights on several international scientific committees.
